Hans Blank (1952) studied under the well-known professor Piet Esser at the Academy for Visual Arts in Amsterdam. After finishing his study, a successful career followed shortly afterwards with expositions, amongst other places in Holland, America, France and Ireland.
Hans Blank always chooses ship or parts of ships as his subject. He has a predilection for the boats we know from the old stories: ships of death, Noah’s arks, Celtic boats, Viking ships, ships floating in the mist. They have a mysterious, ominous aura. He implements his work in bronze, sometimes combining it with stone. The sculptures are robust and powerful.
Since the eighties the artist has worked for a great deal of the year from the South-West coast of Ireland. Since then the Celtic influence can be found in a lot of his work. Apart from his free-lance work companies, private parties and government agencies often commission him for sculptures.
